The Stringybark Short Story Award is our annual open themed award and will be presented to the writer whose story entertains the judges the most. You have a maximum of 1500 words in which to achieve this feat.  International entries are most welcome. The story must:

1. Have a connection, no matter how incidental to Australia (eg the protagonist might dislike Tony Abbott); and

2. Be written for an adult audience (that is, we aren't after children's stories).

There is a total value of over $925 worth of prizes in cash and books available. Stories must be sent via email. Closing date for entries is 31 January 2016. Results will be posted on this website on 3 May 2016.

Owing to popular demand, feedback is now available.  For further information click here.

If you need some guidance in how to write this kind of material, consider reading our previous books that contain some similar stories. They will give you a clear sense of what the judges are looking for. Consider reading: The Road Home, No Tea Tomorrow, The Bridge, Hitler Did It, Side by Side or The Umbrella's Shade, They are all available as paperbacks or e-books and can be obtained from The Bookshop by clicking here.
