The Stringybark Short Story Awards 2019
Stringybark Publishing is proud to sponsor our annual flagship award, The Stringybark Stories Short Story Award 2019. Clean the spilt coffee out of your keyboard (or sharpen your goose quill — whichever is more appropriate) and start writing a 1500 word (max) story that will excite the judges. It can be set wherever your fancy takes you. It can involve characters from the past, the future or today. The only two stipulations are that it must have a link, no matter how tenuous, to Australia (the vegemite sambo on the counter is fine) and suitable for readers over the age of sixteen.
We have an award pool of over $1000 in cash and books to encourage you in this endeavour, provided by our sponsor Stringybark Publishing
Opens: 25 September 2019.
Closes: 11:59 pm AEST 19 January 2020.
Length: ≤1500 words
Award value: Over $1000 in cash and books.
Entry fees: $14 for one story, $26 for two stories, $36 for three stories (max).
Owing to popular demand, feedback is now avaiable. For further information click here.
If you need some guidance in how to write stories that judges will love, read some of our previous anthologies that contain winning stories. We highly recommend that you read some of the award-winning stories from past competitions to get a feeling for what the judges love. Have a read of Timber, A Nice Boy, Standing By or Side by Side.
